Dr. OMAR DEL VECCHIO

– Neurosurgeon and head of advanced diagnostics service –

In 2002 Dr. Del Vecchio graduated and qualified in Veterinary Medicine in Bari, the city where he began his work, doing basic medicine and anaesthesia.

In 2004 he moved to Liguria to join a clinic where he worked for about a year as an anaesthetist. In this period, he assiduously followed refresher courses in anaesthesia and attended the clinic of his colleague Dr. Feltri in Tortona for practical training.

In 2005 he opened the ALMA veterinary clinic in Cosseria (near Savona), as shareholder and owner, where he carried out his profession until 2019. Also in 2005, he undertook a training course at the clinic of Dr. Ferretti in Legnano to follow up to his passion for orthopaedics and veterinary neurology, thus expanding his knowledge and skills in those areas. He also participated in numerous training courses and conferences in general surgery, orthopaedic surgery and neurology.

In 2006 he obtained authorisation to perform official radiograms for hip dysplasia of the elbow and for patellar luxation from both reading centres (FSA and Ce.Le.Ma.Sche).

He then continued his training process by participating in Italian and international congresses, practical courses and SCIVAC educational itineraries on the paraparetic and epileptic patient (2010), on diagnostic imaging and spinal neurosurgery (2013), on neurological examination and on differential diagnoses (2014), brain and cranial nerve pathologies, advanced neurosurgery, computed tomography and spinal cord and PNS pathologies. (2012 and 2015). In 2015 he also participated in the "11th MRI-User Meeting", organised by the Vetsuisse-Faculty of Bern, and in the 28th annual symposium of the European College of Veterinary Neurology, held in Amsterdam and concerning movement disorders.

In 2016 he presented the case "Pneumocephalus in a 'wolf'" at the SCIVAC national congress "Surgery of soft and hard tissues. Know the complications. Learn to manage them”.

In 2017 he took part in the SINVet meeting "Neuroncology: in the middle ground" and in the "5th SCIVAC diagnostic imaging itinerary"; in 2018 he participated in the international symposium "Cervical Spondylomyelopathy (CSM)-State of the Art", in the 14th European MRI User Meeting in Zurich and in the SINVet meeting on Neuropediatrics.

2018 was also the year he obtained a diploma as General Practicioner in Neurology.

In 2019 he attended a theoretical and practical specialism course, organised by the University of Parma, on electrodiagnostics applied to neuromuscular pathologies in dogs and cats. He then did a course on Emergency Medicine I and II in Rome, participated in the 15th MRI-User Meeting in Vienna and in the SINvet course "The pathologies of the PNS".

At the end of 2019, he presented the clinical case "Meningoencephalomyelitis due to Toxoplasma gondii in a young cat" at the SCIVAC national seminar in Milan entitled "Neurology and the cat: the odd couple".

In 2020 he attended the ACVIM online Brain Camps entitled "Advanced diagnostic Imaging", "Electrodiagnostics" and "Neuropathology", as well as the course authorized by KAIST "MRI Fundamentals".

In 2021 he published the case reports "Toxoplasma gondii multifocal central nervous system infiltration in an apparently immunocompetent cat in Italy ”, “Magnetic resonance imaging findings in a cat with cranial cruciate ligament rupture” and "Constrictive myelopathy in an old giant dog". Early in the same year he began his collaboration with the veterinary clinic S. Francesco di Mestre as a neurologist, neurosurgeon and specialist in imaging diagnostics.

In April 2022 he joined the staff at CVRS-Policlinico Veterinario Roma Sud, at the neurology and neurosurgery department. Since July 2022 he has dealt with neurology, neurosurgery and imaging diagnostics also at S. Francesco di Paese di Treviso Veterinary Hospital.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, of the Italian Group of Tecnici Esperti in MRI (GITERM) and currently MSc in Eligible MRI at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.

Since 2013 he has been owner and medical director of Caleidos veterinary clinic, where he is also a consultant for neurology, neurosurgery and advanced diagnostics (CT-MRI and electrodiagnostics), areas for which Caleidos is a point of reference for the whole Ligurian territory and beyond.

Dr. CRISTIAN FALZONE

– Neurologist and neurosurgeon –

In 2001, he graduated in Veterinary Medicine in Perugia. Until 2003, he worked as a private practitioner between Umbria and Tuscany and collaborated with the surgery department of the Veterinary University of Perugia. From 2004 to 2007, he completed a Residency in Neurology under Dr. M. Baroni at the Valdinievole Veterinary Clinic (PT). In 2006, he went abroad for continuing education. In 2007, he graduated from the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN). He is the author of national and international reports and publications related to veterinary neurology. He is a member of the European Society of Veterinary Neurology (ESVN) and the Italian Society (SINVet), of which he is the vice president.

From 2007 to 2010, he specialised in neurology at the Valdinievole Clinic, with a particular focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a neurologist-neurosurgeon at Davies Veterinary Specialists, UK. Currently, he works as a specialist in neurology and neurosurgery at Diagnostica Piccoli Animali (VI) and as a consultant at the Centro Caleidos in Albisola Superiore (SV) and the Clinica Malpensa in Samarate (VA).

Dr. GIULIA FERRETTO

– Sonographer –

In 2001 he graduated in Veterinary Medicine in Perugia. Until 2003 he worked as a freelancer between Umbria and Tuscany and collaborated with the surgery department of the Veterinary University of Perugia. From 2004 to 2007 he held a Residency in Neurology with Dr. M. Baroni, at the Valdinievole Veterinary Clinic (PT). In 2006 he went abroad to continue his education. In 2007 he graduated from the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN). He is the author of Italian and international reports and publications on veterinary neurology. He is a member of the European Society of Veterinary Neurology (ESVN) and of the Italian one (SINVet), of which he is vice president.

In 2007–10 he carried out neuro-specialist activity at the Valdinievole Clinic with particular interest in MRI. In 2010–12 he worked as a neurologist-neurosurgeon at Davies Veterinary Specialists, UK. He currently works as a specialist in neurology and neurosurgery at Diagnostica Piccoli Animali (near Vicenza) and as a consultant at  Caleidos clinic in Albisola Superiore (near Savona) and Malpensa clinic in Samarate (near Varese).

Dr. MARIO RICCIARDI

– Radiologist for CT reporting –

He graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2009 at the University of Bari, then had a training period in the Neuroradiology department at Di Venere Hospital in Bari and Diagnostica Piccoli Animali at Pedrani Zugliano Veterinary Clinic near Vicenza.

In 2010 he enrolled in the Order of Veterinary Physicians of Bari and continued his postgraduate training by obtaining, in 2011, a second-level international master's in Diagnostic Imaging of dogs and cats, at the University of Camerino.

Since his enrolment on the register until 2019, he has worked as a radiologist at Pingry Veterinary Hospital in Bari.

Since 2013 he has been carrying out teleradiological consultancy (MDCT-MRI) for various Italian veterinary clinics and since 2022 he has been a CT-RM scientific consultant for MYLAV s.r.l.u.

During the specialist activity, he consolidates his skills in neuroradiology, vascular and oncological imaging of the dog and cat and the parametric settings on multi-slice tomographs and LF-MRI.

He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in international journals concerning advanced diagnostic imaging of dogs and cats, an area for which he has also been a speaker at various scientific congresses.
